Working on This Project
Creating album art for Anthony Willis was an great opportunity to work with a friend and composer of exceptional caliber. Anthony, who has been nominated for an Academy Award and emerged from Hans Zimmer’s prestigious Remote Control Productions alongside Academy Award Winner John Powell, approached me to design artwork for two classical pieces that marked a creative departure from his Hollywood work.
The challenge was translating the essence of his music into visual form. Working primarily in Photoshop, I employed photo-bashing techniques to build these artistic interpretations, drawing from high-quality, royalty-free sources like Pexels.com and Unsplash.com to create compelling visual narratives that would resonate with the musical content.
The process involved deep listening to understand the mood and character of each piece, then experimenting with various visual elements to find the perfect synthesis of imagery that could stand as worthy representations of Anthony’s artistic vision.

These final iterations represent the culmination of our collaborative process. Each design captures the unique character of its corresponding musical piece, balancing sophisticated visual elements with the emotional depth that Anthony’s compositions deserve. The artwork needed to work both as standalone visual pieces and as representations of the music they accompany.

Throughout the creative process, I explored numerous visual directions and concepts that, while not ultimately selected, showcase different approaches to interpreting Anthony’s music. These alternative designs demonstrate the range of possibilities we considered and the various ways classical music can be translated into visual art.
Each concept brought its own strengths and artistic merit, contributing to the overall creative journey that led to our final selections.
